The office was opened at the end of February 2000. Its activities include
fostering and helping shape the debate on sustainability and civil-society
alternatives in Southeast Asia by offering relevant educational programmes.

tasks of the South East Asia Regional Office in Chiang Mai?
Planning and monitoring existing long-term project cooperation with different
partner organizations in the region (five Thai
and two foreign staff members support the programme
and work and deal with financial administration).
Political representation of the Foundation in Thailand or participation
at events in the region.
Regional political analysis and reporting.
Organisation of Asia-Europe dialogue and exchange.
Events organized by the Foundation in Thailand or neighbouring countries,
such as seminars, conferences, discussions and debates.
South-South networking.
Support of small-scale projects in Thailand for grassroots initiatives
and model projects as well as to project experiments that mainly promote
sustainable development approaches and gender justice.
Exposure and study trips to Germany/Europe.
