This installation shows the processes of social transformation and the changes, which the people of the ‘Isan’ (Northeast of Thailand) are undergoing in the age of globalisation.
The main incentive behind rural immigration to the major Thai cities is
the potential financial security borne from improved job prospects. This
migration is also a direct result of national economics and past social
planning. Some migrants integrate into the work force whilst others set
up the many of the small businesses visible on the streets of the major
towns. The migrants, predominantly ‘Isan’ people, come in search of wish
fulfilment making towns and cities the meeting place for people striving
to realise their dreams.
With my work, I would like to show the processes of social transformation and the changes, which the people of the ‘Isan’ are undergoing in the age of globalisation. In the dance and song piece “Moh Lun Cing” these changes are exemplified i.e. by the modern costumes and elements that originate from “New Age”.
The aim of the work is to present the varied experiences of the ‘Isan’ migrants’ way of life, ideas, dreams and expressions. By means of VDO, paintings combined with light, colour, sound and the curtain, the broader picture is presented. I intend to show the true dream that fuses these people in varied physical and mental dimensions in order to cast light onto their identities. The performance blends together the creator, the audience and the performers in an information exchange between the three different dimensions of area and time.
