I want to express a fear regarding the bias of globalisation in relation to my country combined with the fear of the negative impact that the monetarisation would have over our lives.

As an artist from Myanmar I was thinking how I could best relate to the theme of the exhibition, it is extremely thought provoking. My country is one of the least integrated into the global economy. Therefore we are not effected by the negative sides of globalisation as much as other countries. At least the burden of our problems can not be laid at the feet of globalisation. Then neither are we are fully enjoying the advantages of global integration. Yet, my perception of globalisation in relation to Myanmar is very biased. I have tried to depict this bias in my painting by showing Burma as a “gap” for the global use of credit cards. The credit card is for me the image of globalisation in that it allows money to transcend borders. But I show the credit card being thrown out of Burma with a sense of joy and vitality. This is to express my fear regarding the bias of globalisation combined with the dread of the negative impact that monetarist would have on our lives.
