Video/New Media is a new lingua franca for expression besides being a test of contemporary problems, including primordial identity. It is inherently reflective, re-constructive, critical and instant. It’s strength is that it can pose questions paradoxically. This language introduces opportunities for people to participate in the process of a cultural dialogue which is more balanced and sustainable.
Notions of pleasure and entertainment are linked to the desires of present life. At the same time, happiness is conjoined with religion in its promise of an eternal life. The Bubbles is a montage of metaphorical images (court dance, Pavarotti singing, the Teletubbies and an ulama, a religious teacher) flying in the sky and floating in the sea, depicting a journey with the images conversing with one another over time and space. It simultaneously projects a dreamlike quality and a noisy awakening. The bursting bubbles suggest the commencement of purification, which continues endlessly.
