For me, the three questions “What? Where? Why?” are my way to express the perceived loss of direction in the whirlwind of globalisation. The wide-open eyes express the intensity with which these questions have to be asked.
In our present life we are expected to accept varied contradictions caused
by the impact of globalization on our society. Different cultures and diverse
worldviews are clashing. What is globalisation and what is the impact on
our identities? Where is it taking place? Where are these changes most noticeable?
Why has the process risen to become such an influential power? Many people
are overwhelmed by what is happening, but it is hard to fully understand
cause and effect. This is necessary to regulate the unwanted side effects
of globalization.
For me, the three questions “What? Where? Why?” are my way to ex-press the
perceived loss of direction in the whirlwind of globalisation. The wide-open
eyes express the intensity with which these questions have to be asked.
Of most concern to me from a Vietnamese perspective is the sexualisation
of life particularly of women. It is increasingly noticeable in public
life, advertisements and in fashion as the new “entertainment” industry.
This relates directly to other pressing problems in our society, if it is
not somehow brought into balance there will be regrettable consequences
particularly for the Vietnamese woman.
