The works not only discuss the loss of identity but the loss of an independent livelihood.

“Gulp!” discusses not only the loss of identity but the loss of an independent livelihood. In the Philippines large swathes of productive ancestral agricultural land were converted into recreational and industrial sites without any comprehensive scheme of compensation for the farmers. In the end the farmers lost the land they had promised their ancestors they would tend. Taking somebody’s land is comparable to taking somebody’s life. At times they even lose their lives fighting for their rights. This work constitutes an un-conditional metaphor for the irony of such a situation caused by modernisation, “development” and globalisation.
