Together with the harmonising elements intrinsic to it, this distinctive type of lacquer painting that is unique to the world, forms an exceptionally well-suited medium for representing the objective of shaping globalisation in a fair and equitable manner.
Created in the lacquer technique, this five-panelled and essentially segmented piece depicts the threat posed to mankind’s dream of a peaceful world in which man lives in harmony with nature and the fine arts flourish. Lacquer is a local medium of art that has evolved into a highly refined art form in Vietnam. Together with its intrinsic harmonising elements - to judge by just the diversity and depth of colours alone - this distinctive form of lacquer painting, which occupies a unique place in the world, forms an exceptionally well-suited medium for rep-resenting the objective of shaping globalisation with a sense of fair-ness, in a world free of war and social hatred, in which everyone can evolve and come into his own. However, this objective will remain utopian for a long time to come, as is indicated not only by the cracks but also by the snake on the tree trunk which is in the process of making its way to the roots.
